Instructions for the use of the fixed dental devices

All along the treatment:

• Keep the teeth and gums very clean. Wash your teeth and use the special brush for hygiening the brackets according to the indications
• Give up the harmful customs: finger-sucking, nail or pencil-biting, etc
• Get appointments for professional prophylaxis once every 3 months
• Do not chew hard, sticky or high-sugary food stuffs:
• Do not chew chewing-gum
• Do not eat fudges, candies or hard candies
• Do not eat fruits (apples, pears, peaches, prunes etc) and hard vegetables unless they are cut into very small pieces
• Do not chew the meat off the bones
• Do not hard pretzels
• Do not try to break ice-cubes or walnuts with your teeth
• Do not eat lemons
• Do not eat corn directly off the corn ear
• Do not eat pizza unless cut in small pieces; never eat the crust on the edge

Rules for the use of the mobile orthodontic devices:

• The mobile orthodontic device will be held in the oral cavity 16 hours a day (during the night, and complete during the day up to 16 hours)
• The device will not be worn in school or while practising various sports
• During the meals, the patient will not wear the mobile orthodontic device
• Device hygiening:
• The hygienisation is to be performed upon every removal from the oral cavity
• The hygienisation is to be performed by washing it with water and soap by means of a hand brush, insisting on the edges, the spaces between the fragments and the screws.
• Rinse off with warm water.
• The hygienisation of the oral cavity:
• It is to be performed every time the device is introduced in the oral cavity
• After every brushing the mouth is to be rinsed with mouth water
• Check-up for professional hygienisation every 3 months or whenever required
• The activation of the mobile orthodontic device is to be performed with the special key received at the same time as the device, according to the physician’s indications:
• Always in the sense pointed by the arrow, upon exact time intervals (according to the physician’s indications), in the evening
• Before the activation, the device will have been worn for, at least, 1 to 2 hours
• CAUTION: it will not be activated after a period of rest. After activation, the device will immediately start being worn.
• It is compulsory to come for check-up whenever problems occur, such as:
• The impossibility to correctly apply the device, according to the indications received from the physician
• The device lack of stability
• Device damage
• Pain

• It is mandatory to come for check-up according to the physician’s indications
• Within the first 7 to 10 days as of the application of the mobile orthodontic device, you might feel a slight hyper-salivation (excess of saliva secretion) or difficulty in swallowing the saliva. These small inconveniences will fully disappear after this time interval will have passed if the device is correctly worn
• Diction exercises are recommended (reading out loud, rarely, pronouncing the words correctly and repeating the ones where difficulties exist)
