Surgery

Tooth extraction is an intervention performed out of necessity and it is quite often encountered even at very early ages. It is an intervention which consists of removing a bad tooth which causes and maintains the local, regional and general pathological processes which can not be solved by conservative treatments.

The major indications of tooth extraction are given by the cavity and marginal periodontopathy complications, to which dental-maxillary traumatisms are added.

In those cases where the anatomical particularities or other pathological processes render the endodontic treatment impossible, supporting surgical methods may be used:

• periapical curettage - cleaning the pathological tissues at the root tip
• apicoectomy - root tip removal, followed by the pathological tissue cleaning around the tooth root
• root amputation - surgical technique which is used for preserving certain molars where one of the roots is recoverable (it has an inflammatory osteo-periodontal process)

These preservation methods, if correctly applied, reduce considerably the need for extraction, allowing the teeth preservation for a long period of time. All these surgical manoeuvres are successfully performed in our clinic.
